What are the ingredients that make up a perfect romantic meal for two? First of all, you need to consider the setting. A beautiful restaurant with stunning views will create the right ambience. Of course, the food is an important factor too, and that will depend on your own tastes - some people have an adventurous palate, while others prefer a more classic menu. And finally, there’s the wow-factor: it might be the views, or the location, or a certain dish on the menu, that will turn an ordinary evening into something special. Fortunately, here in Dubai we are spoilt for choice when it comes to romantic dining destinations. The only difficulty is picking just one.
You can’t go wrong with dinner at La Serre. Paris is the city of love, and you can recreate some of that Gallic charm at this popular French restaurant. Located at Vida Downtown, La Serre is one of the best French restaurants in the city and has all the ingredients for a perfect meal: impeccably cooked cuisine, service that’s attentive but unobtrusive, and an elegant yet relaxed setting within walking distance of all the delights of Downtown Dubai. When you want a night of old-fashioned romance, complete with flowers, candlelight and sparkling beverages, La Serre is the way to go.
In nearby Downtown Dubai, Burj Khalifa is not just a record-breaking landmark, it’s also home to one of the emirate’s best restaurants. Located on the 122nd floor of the tallest skyscraper in the world, At.mosphere, Burj Khalifa, is a dining destination that should be on any couple’s bucket list. There’s no better way to celebrate a special occasion than with dinner at a window side table, enjoying gourmet food as you gaze at the city below you. The views are truly incredible, and provide a built-in wow-factor for every date. Whether there’s someone you want to impress or simply want to spoil, book a table at At.mosphere, Burj Khalifa. After dinner, you can take a romantic stroll around Downtown Dubai.
Of course, if you want to do something really special, you could always book tickets to Dubai Opera. The gorgeous building in the heart of Downtown Dubai is the centre for performing arts in the city, and has hosted some world-class theatre, music, ballet and opera acts, as well as a few rock and pop performances, so there’s something to suit everyone, and it makes for a glamorous date. Whichever show you decide to see, be sure to go for a pre-theatre bite at the resident restaurant, Sean Connolly at Dubai Opera. Fronted by the British-born celebrity chef, you can enjoy gorgeous views of Burj Khalifa as you sample impeccably cooked steaks, seafood and more. The Pearl Lounge and Cocktail Bar is a beautiful spot for a sundowner or a nightcap.
Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Fountain should be on anyone’s itinerary while they’re in the city, and the best way to combine these with a romantic dinner is to book a table at one of the nearby restaurants that capitalises on the views. Palace Downtown has a couple of great options - try Asado, the Argentinian steakhouse. Book a table on the terrace for amazing views of The Dubai Fountain while you enjoy a menu of South American favourites. Thai eatery Thiptara also has a prime viewing spot for the show, and serves up some of the best Thai cuisine in Dubai.
While Downtown Dubai is obviously blessed when it comes to dining destinations, look beyond to the quieter parts of the city and you might be surprised at the treasures you discover. Address Montgomerie is a great example of an off-the-radar-find that nevertheless excels. Book a table for two on the terrace at Nineteen, a restaurant serving up delicious Mediterranean cuisine, and marvel at the views of the city skyline in the distance and the rolling green of the golf course below. The verdant surroundings that are part of Address Montgomerie’s appeal, this is one venue that really does feel like a luxury golf resort. For a similarly lush landscape, you could also try dinner for two at Palermo, a beautiful eatery overlooking the grounds of the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club.
